So far, what have been the obstacles to integrating technology and how are you overcoming these obstacles? If you haven't run into obstacles, share a success story. Describe the lesson and tell how the technology piece enhanced the lesson.
My situation is different from most, but I have had the pleasure of using the ActivExpressions (aka eggs, aka clickers) in a staff meeting. Subsequent to that, I shared with staff that they were available to use in their classrooms if they would like. This morning, I got to work with one teacher who used a flipchart that I made for her. We went through the process this morning and they I checked out the first two classes that she used them in. She was great. The whole thing went VERY well.
I am really, really frustrated by my Activotes, because once I used "anonymous" it won't go back into "named" mode!!! I was so loving the Activotes BEFORE this happened, now it's just a nuisance!
The only obstacle at this point is me. I have not used the Flip camera yet and I believe I'm the obstacle. I look forward to meeting next week with the group and getting ideas on how I can use the camera in a meaningful way.
I'm still using the Activotes from last year and haven't used the ActiExpressions yet. I haven't been able to set them up to do lots of web based questions and collect the results the way I can with the ActiVotes.
I have become overwhelmed by the school year and have lost the momemtum I developed in the summer. And I have forgotten much of what I learned this summer and planned to do.
As with any new skill it takes time to become proficient. The best way for me to learn is to problem solve my way through a given task. That being said, this trial and error method takes time! Fortunately my students have been very patient and helpful when I face unexpceted glitches. I am also lucky to have terrific technical support at PLMS that has allowed me to stretch my skills with the Activeboard.
One obstacle has been getting my projector/board set up properly in my class, my board still needs to be moved.
Another obstacle is some of the annoyances of the new dell laptops, poor battery life, keyboard that is too small and a sensitive track pad.
I also had to learn how to set up my laptop to connect to the projector by going through the advanced properties menu for display settings it took me 5 hours one day to figure it out.
